One foot in front of the other…

I’m totally Winter Warlock right now. Except my beard isn’t quite as awesome. Maybe when I’m older. And have ice powers.

But seriously. I’ve no idea what I’m doing here. I’m starting, like, six new habits at once. All of which are going to somehow revolve around this blog, which I’m hoping will act as a connecting point to keep it all together. A nexus, if you will, of my thoughts and actions. God willing I can make something out of all of it, start creating and giving back. Investing the gifts given to me and making something greater of them to return to the Giver.

Blah. I face a lot of fear of failure here. I face that all the time, honestly. It’s why I’m gunshy about starting anything new like this. God knows I’ve tried things like this a billion times. Search my name in google and see how many half-baked blogs and websites are out there. But…well, Mike Foster’s People of the Second Chance has got me thinking maybe that’s alright. Maybe the fact that this might just be a series of screwups waiting to happen isn’t such a bad thing. After all, it takes a bunch of epic failures to make a lightbulb.

Okay, so the chances of me making something as cool as a lightbulb are pretty slim, but spare a nerd his delusions.

Speaking of nerds, I picked up the first volume of Scott Pilgrim today. Loving it; the deceptively kiddy style of cartooning only makes the well-played character interaction all the more fun. The story builds up pretty nicely without seeming forced at all, and the weirdness and off-the-wall bendyness of reality in it makes for a pretty entertaining read. Good sense of timing, choice of panel, all that.

I feel kinda sorry for Knife, though. (She’s Scott’s Asian Catholic high schooler girlfriend in the beginning.) The movie trailers never mention her. Hope she’s not too heartbroken when it all hits the fan.

…I’m almost certain my girlfriend  is going to be pro Scott/Knife now. Yay crack couples. Seriously though Knife is a nice girl, good head on her shoulders, lots of admiration and support for Scott. It could work, darn it.

Where was I? Oh yeah. Fears and screwups and hoping it doesn’t happen. Well, we’ll see. One thing’s for sure though: I’m gonna try. Gonna try to write and pray more. Try to draw and color/paint more. And here’s where the proof will be.

Speaking of which, I’ve got two art pieces I’ve gotta get moving on. I started coloring one, a big anti-porn illustration that’s been in the works. That one really scares me; it’s bolder than anything I’ve done before and I want it to hit as hard as it can. So it’s gotta pop visually. Hopefully I can get the colors nice and pretty so it pulls people in and gets them thinking.

The second is a piece inspired by a Pagan’s Mind album cover, specifically the one for God’s Equation. I’m tweaking it a bit; I’ll post sketches and such later once I get further along.

And then there’s the matter of starting a webcomic or two. Depends on if Matt, my partner in crime for one of them, is ready to go on that one yet. More on that awesomeness in later posts.

Hopefully jotting all this down here will help me get moving on it. If you’re reading this already for some…reason, well, feel free to comment and tell me what you think. Wanting to see the artwork ideas? Ever have trouble getting crap of your own started?

Wishing you had a beard like the Warlock too?

Let me know.
